Meet Photographer Emily Deszell!

Emily Deszell - Headshot

Q: What drew you to your medium?

A: I’ve always been captivated by photography. I began learning in high school where I took a film photography class. I fantasized about being a professional photographer but for one reason or another I didn’t pursue my dream until over a decade later.

It wasn’t until my son was born that my dream actualized. I didn’t want to miss a single moment of his life. And I realized that my calling all along, aside from being a mother first, is photography.

So I got serious and bought a new camera, took some professional photography classes, and really did it! I officially started my business this year. My niche is capturing the beautiful messy nuances of parenthood and most importantly our earth angel children. That’s what really lights me up. Our babies are only little for such a glimpse and preserving the magic is what I’m all about. So what truly drew me to my medium was becoming a mother and witnessing the unending enchantment that is my child. He is my muse.

Q: Where do you find your inspiration?

A: I draw my inspiration from the human experience itself. Emotions fascinate me and draw me in. As well as the ethereal beauty of our earth, from the mountains to the sea and all the colors in between. I want to capture precious moments of parents and children submerged in breath-taking scenery! I seek to preserve as many moments of this finite journey we are on and make it into tangible art. To me, life is art. All of it. From the miraculous to the mundane. It’s all beautiful.

Q: What is one of your favorite local spots?

A: One of my favorite local spots is Dickerson Creek Waterfall. It’s majestic and so calming. Water for me is medicine to my soul. If you haven’t ventured into the forest to this spot, go!

Q: Where can we find more of your art?

A: Follow my work on Instagram @emilydeszellphotography

I am in the process of building a website that will be done soon. Where I truly desire for my art to end up is on the walls of people's homes to cherish daily.
