Meet Alize Reaux

Q: What inspires you about Bremerton?
A: What inspires me the most about Bremerton is the "want" for artists. They make a massive effort to make artists feel seen and do so by showcasing art and really broadening people's minds, even mine. I have seen some amazing works since beginning my participation almost exactly a year ago.
Q: What drew you to your medium?
A: I am someone who uses multiple mediums. I am learning how to use graphite, charcoal, and even digital means, and they all have their own tips and tricks in order to be successful. My schooling has educated me on many things, and the medium that has stood out the most to me has been gouache; it is a type of paint that has a confusing relationship between watercolor and acrylic paint. Digipen has equipped me with skills to find colors, set up something that is interesting, and make it appealing to viewers and myself. Color is something that I have been drawn to ever since I started drawing at eighteen, and with a three-month-long painting class and now another one I am in the process of completing, I am excited to see what I can do with everything taught once this semester ends.
Q: What is your favorite local spot?
A: I would say that my favorite local spot would have to be Bubz; the store is so cozy, and I love the colors and the atmosphere. The people in the building are very friendly and welcoming, and they have a variety of options that I enjoy. I would say my favorite thing to get there would be the Nutella and Strawberry bubble waffles, and I am excited to come back during the summer to try out the rest of their new menu options.
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: I tend to find my inspiration through emotion and how I feel. A lot of my series, "Within An Opposite," was inspired by emotions I wanted to depict. I usually use colors to convey the idea I would like to portray and really draw from my imagination and go from there. I am looking forward to continuing my series, expressing myself and the drastic change of events in my life since school started. Since most of my work is a straight shot (done without prior planning and continuation till fully complete), even if I am uncertain about what may come next.
Q: What does your perfect First Friday look like?
A: The perfect first Friday looks like an event that is welcoming to everybody. No matter if they have anything to offer, want to appreciate another person's work, or even want to be a passerby during the event. It looks like a place people want to be. When I personally participate in the First Fridays, it is filled with fun and laughter, and just the appreciation of everyone's work and getting to see what people can do with their imagination.
