Words cannot begin to capture the significance this incredible event.

On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20th, 2025, over 500 people gathered to celebrate Black History in Bremerton with the Quincy Square groundbreaking event. We gathered at Roxy Theatre to honor our past, celebrate our present, and look forward to the future of downtown Bremerton.

Judge Richard Jones, Quincy Jones’ brother, delivered a heartfelt keynote that focused on the deep importance of family—both the ones we are born into and the communities we create together. With his family in attendance, his words resonated powerfully, reminding us of the ties that unite us in this shared journey.

The event was a fusion of history, heritage, and hope, with inspiring tributes to Quincy Jones and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It was a celebration of the milestones we’ve reached and a promise of the bright future ahead.

Emily Russell, a talented landscape architect with an office on Fourth Street, played a pivotal role in shaping Quincy Square. After seeing Quincy Jones share his story on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she proposed naming the square in his honor. Jones spent several formative years in Bremerton and shared that his love for music began when he first touched a piano in the city.

Emily’s passion for storytelling through design will leave a lasting mark on 4th Street, transforming it into a space that celebrates community, creativity, and history. Quincy Square is not just a project—it’s a legacy in the making. To all who joined us, and to everyone who has supported this vision, thank you. Together, we are reimagining the heart of downtown Bremerton and building a space where creativity, culture, and community thrive. You can learn more about this project by heading to the City of Bremerton's website or the dedicated Quincy Sqaure website.
